Our services
I provide
various services for both the manufacture of guitars to
repairs and setup's. I mainly work with electric guitars
as I feel that acoustics are a completely different
discipline. I have concentrated my skills on the design,
manufacture, restoration, and repair of electric
guitars. In addition, I am an authorised
Buzz Feiten Tuning System
dealer and retrofitter.

GUITAR
SETUPS & REPAIRS:
Probably my most enjoyable work is in the setting up of
a guitar - I take this very seriously as I feel it is
the most important aspect of a guitar. If a guitar made
from the finest materials and components available is
not set up correctly, it is a shameful waste. Likewise,
an inexpensive guitar set up correctly will be a
pleasure to play. I am constantly purchasing new tools
as well as developing a few of my own to aid in the
setting up of electric guitars. While I believe that the
design of a guitar is an art form, I strongly believe
that the setting up is more of a science - taking
constant measurements and working within precise
tolerances allows a guitar to be set up perfectly for
its owner. |

The Complete TC Ellis Guitars Setup Process -
from £55:
When setting up a guitar I first inspect & test
the guitar for any obvious issues. Setting up a guitar
takes 2 sets of strings - one set for the setup, and a
final set for the intonation. The
following steps are what I perform on my complete TC
Ellis Guitars setup - please note that trem / non trem
guitars, hollow bodys etc all need different attention:
Initial
Evaluation:
Tune to pitch
Play the guitar
Inspect for cracks, dents or scratches
Test neck for strength and twist
Adjust relief in neck – test truss rod, lube
Inspect nut shape, slots and action
Check fret condition and height
Check bridge & tailpiece
Check tuning keys - lube if needed
Plug in & check electronics
Step 1 -
Fret Dressing:
Install Guitar onto neck jig
Adjust neck to perfect straight
(remove relief)
Remove strings
Re-adjust truss rod to remove relief
Tape off frets & pickups
Do a quick fret rocker test & mark high frets
Level frets with sanding beam
Dress the fret ends with fret end file
Re-crown frets
Hand polish and buff
Step 2 –
Re-string & Adjust:
Restring guitar & tune to pitch
Adjust truss rod to optimum relief
Check nut action and file slots to adjust
Shape nut, lube & polish
Adjust action on bridge saddles and set bridge to necks
relief
Check each string / fret for buzz & adjust accordingly
Set pickup height
Set intonation
Plug in & Test
